You may or may not have heard of Avast Antivirus software or may have used the free reduced features version on your Home PC. Now for  the total protection of the Avast rang of business solutions. Purconn IT Services have partnered with Avast to offer our clients an alternative to the slow and cumbersome regular antivirus packages out there.

Some Antivirus software is so heavy on system resources that your PC becomes unusable and you think you would be better off without it. Why not switch to Avast Pro or Avast Internet Security which offer excellent protection from today’s threats without killing your PC.

Microsoft have announced that they will be adding Security Essentials to the Windows Update stream. They have started in the US and hope to roll-out to the rest of the world in the next few months. Since its launch Microsoft Security Essentials has acquired a reputation for being a solid little anti-virus solution, and with the extension of its licensing to include small businesses I’m sure its reputation will only grow.

Street View for Ireland

Written by admin
October 1st, 2010

At last Ireland gets on StreetView, we all heard of the Google cars traveling around Ireland scaring cows and little old Lady’s when the odd looking vehicles peered over the hedge. Well this is what it was all about, now no more vague directions you can see your journey as you would drive it. This with the introduction of Loc8 numbers there is no excuse for a courier not finding you.

Even if you just want to see if the Hotel you are staying in next weekend is nice or across the road from a landfill site StreetView is perfect.

Internet Explorer 9 beta Chrome by another name ?

Written by admin
September 20th, 2010

The long awaited replacement to IE8 looks like it is finally on the way, with better performance being the main bonus and support for HTML5 and CSS3 it promises to be Microsoft’s saviour in the browser wars. Or will it, its new minimalist look seems to be a direct copy of Google’s Chrome and even Opera, and the much touted ability to pin a site to the task bar will in my opinion not light up the lives of many Internet users.

Looks aside all many of you just require is a fast browser; and I thing Microsoft have pulled that off. Its not as fast as Opera put I think that will not be the case with the final product, as speed was a major factor in its design.

Overall I like the move in browsers away from cluttered toolbars and status bars, to a more clean look. So the new IE9 gets my vote there but speed in the beta at least is only fast when comparing it to IE8 not its competitors who are just as fast. Microsoft again playing catchup to its more innovative foes.

Photosynth is a concept Microsoft have been developing with NASA for the past few years and has really came a long way in those years. The basic concept is you take a lot of still photos of a subject, lets say a room in your home. Make sure they overlap in some way, Photosynth stitches them together into a 3D representation of that room.As you see below it is pretty cool.

Eircom to cut off filesharers

Written by admin
April 19th, 2010

Irish ISP Eircom will soon be disconnecting its broadband customers who are involved in files sharing of copyright material. This will be done after a warning has been issued to the user. This has major implications for other ISPs in the market as the will also have to be seen to be tough on copyright crime. The Internet generation who grew up with the expectation that they can download anything from the net are in for a rude awakening, as the say in the movie Casablanca “maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow , but soon..” the Rupert Murdock types and music industry are out to change the Internet as we know it

Property for Sale in Gorey

I was doing a job the other day and the subject of property sales in the Gorey/ North Wexford area came up in conversation. I did a quick Google, and was amazed to find one of the regions major players don’t appear on the first two pages. Who are they I here you ask, or maybe not but they are Sherry Fitzgerald. The thinking behind it seems to be that all the different branches use the www.Sherryfitz.ie website which doesn’t appear to be that search engine friendly. It shows how even the big-boys can get Search Engine Optimization all wrong. It really is a black art.

Hopefully people will find this post and click on the link above.

hyper

Here’s one that’s strange but cool, and these guys are on our doorstep hear in Wexford. Who or what is a Hyperbaric Chamber and what is it for ?

Well I thought it was only for treating the bends or Decompression sickness but apparently it can be used to treat a host of things where it can encourage blood flow and thus healing and dramatically shorten recovery times.

A pretty cool piece of kit and a Wexford company sells and distributes them. Its not something your going to require to rush out and buy for the garden shed, but it just shows you whats going on on your doorstep. If you do require one click on the image or the details are below.

kinsella

Gorey based estate agent Kinsella have recently revamped there website, the new site offers a much more functional environment for the user which give you what you want with the minimum number of clicks.

It is also fast considering the age old problem with property sites of pictures being slow to download. With house prices falling and banks slow to lend its good to see long-standing business like Kinsella Estates making the effort and going after the customer. Well Done
